Balanced growth and degrowth with human capital

چکیده

In a simple discrete-time version of Lucas (1988) we find that the Balanced Growth Path (BGP) is always unique optimal planner’s solution: with linear or strictly concave production functions, unbounded utility without human capital depreciation. When ”speed” accumulation high, working time constant and below its upper bound. Capital grows at factor, but degrowth also possible when this factor less one (under positive depreciation). speed low, boundary declines depreciation (degrowth).

Human capital and growth cycles

This paper studies the dynamic interaction between human capital accumulation and economic growth. Capital market imperfections and an indivisibility in human capital investment prevent poor agents from accumulating skills, the acquisition of which positively affects technological progress. More productive technologies in turn requiremore sophisticated qualificatio and involve higher training c...

Human Capital, Aggregation, and Growth

The famous Mincer equation regressing log earnings on years of schooling is derived from a linear human capital accumulation equation at the individual level. Even if the cross-sectional Mincer equation holds at the level of individuals, it does not hold at the macro level of countries because aggregation of human capital has to take into account its vintage structure: human capital is embodied...

On Endogenous Growth with Physical and Human Capital

This paper presents a class of models in which agents may devote part of their nonleisure activities to going to school so as to increase the efficiency units of labor they supply to the firms and the wages they receive. The interaction among the technology of human capital accumulation and agents' preferences will determine endogenously the ec::onomy's rate of growth. Given a constant returns ...

Economic Growth and the CES Production Function with Human Capital

Employing a neoclassical growth model with a constant elasticity of substitution production function, we develop a comparative static and dynamic analysis of the effects of the elasticity of substitution between inputs on the steady state growth path, growth threshold, speed of convergence and savings rates. Unlike earlier studies along these lines, we incorporate human capital, along with phys...

Commentary: Human Capital and Economic Growth

Most of us in this room-I dare say most adult Americans-were challenged as children to "make something of ourselves," specifically to "get an education." The fervor of the plea in my own case may have been a bit unusual-you see, unlike Senator Joe Biden, I am the first in my immediate family to get a college education. But I doubt very many haven't heard somewhere along the way the clarion call...
